Roaring Summer

Where will your bike be taking you this summer? There are some great places to ride around the UK, perhaps you'd like to recommend some yourself?

The RAC list their top five UK road trips: as The Antrim Coast Road, Northern Ireland - stunning coastline from Larne to The Giant's Causeway; The A357 Peak District - known as The Cat and Fiddle; The North Coast 500, Scotland - takes in Inverness Castle and John O'Groats; A39 Minehead to Barnstaple - including the challenge of 1:4 Porlock Hill; A470 Cardiff to Llandudno - 185 mile route incorporating the Brecon Beacons and Abergwesyn Pass.

Share your favourite motorcycle route with us, we'd love to hear about it!

Remember stay safe riding this summer. Don't skimp on the gear because of the heat, wear good quality, ventilated kit. Keep well hydrated, stop for breaks and keep your machine in A1 order. The Dave Barkshire team can help kit you out and give your bike a thorough service. Have a great summer!

Compulsory Basic Training Course (CBT)

Dave Barkshire Motorcycle Training is pleased to offer this excellent training course at a cost of just £95 including full instruction and equipment hire. We also offer a generous discount on all items of equipment purchased from our well-stocked shop when taking the course.

In 1990, the Government introduced the CBT, designed at reducing the number of road traffic incidents involving novice moped and motorcycle riders. The CBT prepares and equips you with basic skills and knowledge that you need in order to be competent on today’s roads. However, it is not an exam or test, but a training course consisting of a number of theoretical and practical elements including a two-hour, instructor-supervised road ride.

Our purpose-built training facility features an off-road course and test area that has been specially created to include road markings, roundabouts and some major and minor road junctions, providing the ideal environment to complete the necessary training for this course. You’re given the perfect opportunity to develop a good understanding of road situations, whilst learning in a safe, well-supervised environment.

Completion of this course allows riders aged 16 to ride a 50cc moped or scooter and riders of 17 or above to ride a motorcycle of scooter of up to 125cc, however you will still not be allowed to take passengers or ride on motorways and 'L' plates must still be displayed.
