Keys To A Great Ride!

The Dave Barkshire Motorcycle team have been working hard this year, be it a bit differently at times, to provide key services for all you avid motorcycle riders out there.

We endeavoured to provide MOT slots and workshop services for key workers throughout March, April and beyond. Remember we’re here to give your machine a full service, as keeping your bike in A1 condition is key to its performance and your safety.

Although our popular Hit The Dirt track was closed for a time, we were delighted to re-open it in July. You can still enjoy all the thrills and spills that the Enduro circuit has to offer, but by appointment, and whilst being mindful of current guidelines that are key to giving everyone a safe and enjoyable time. For more information visit www.facebook.com/HitTheDirtUK

And of course, you can still come along to our Motorcycle Centre in Rackheath to buy a brilliant new or used bike to suit you. It’s been great to hand over keys to many proud new owners over recent months, even if we now tend to bump elbows rather than shake hands.

We hope to see you soon to pick up your new dream machine from us – with an ‘elbows, keys and a boomps-a-daisy’!

Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn!

Summer may be over but it’s given us some great memories! It was good to meet some lovely customers and help with their new motorcycle choices, here’s wishing them a fantastic time on the road. Some of the most popular buys were the KTM 1290 Adventure R, 790 Adventure R and the 125 Duke.

Throughout August and into September there have been many eager riders undergoing motorcycle training at our dedicated centre, with some fantastic results. Across CBT, Mod 1 and Mod 2 riders emerged triumphant.

Autumn itself has got off to a busy start. The Dave Barkshire 2-Man Enduro Championship Round 4 was hosted by Sudbury MCC at Pebmarsh and Round 5 took place at Kenton courtesy of Stowmarket MCC. Back at the Motorcycle Centre our Open Evening complete with BBQ, demo rides and training info, proved a popular event, so thank you to all who came. http://www.hitthedirtdb.net/

As we go through autumn we hope to meet many more of you keen riders, whether it’s to purchase a new machine, some motorcycle gear, or to give your trusted ride a service. Remember we’re dealers for KTM and Mutt Motorcycles, giving you the best in choice. Hope to see you soon.

Prepare For An Adventure

We’re a quarter of the way through the year already and it’s all systems go at our Hit The Dirt Track, Motorcycle Training Facility and Motorcycle Centre.

We’ve recently introduced a new track layout at our popular enduro practice track at Swaffham, offering a new challenge for all you keen riders. There were a few setbacks in March when Storm Gareth took its toll, resulting in a big pump out operation, and the kids’ track closed for the forestry commission survey, but we’re hoping for lots of great weekends ahead. Fancy winning a year’s free riding at Hit The Dirt? Then just like and share our Dave Barkshire Motorcycles Facebook page and find and follow us on Instagram to be entered in our prize draw! You have until 24th May to enter, so what are you waiting for? http://www.hitthedirtdb.net/

The new KTM Adventure R has hit the showrooms, with Dave braving the snowy wilds of Wales to attend the dealers’ launch. Back at our Motorcycle Centre, he was thrilled to hand over one of these prized machines to a happy customer who rode it back up to Scotland, with a trip to Spain next on the agenda. What a great bike this is, powerful and agile, yet offering a super smooth ride.

If it’s motorcycle accessories you’re after, then the Dave Barkshire Motorcycle Centre is still the place to home! Fancy a bit of retro as you ride? Then the new Simpson Bandit motorcycle helmet is worth a look. Pop in to our Rackheath showroom to see all that we have to offer.
Father and son, David and Joe enjoy success at our training facility

Our Motorcycle Training Centre has been busy and we love to hear feedback from some of our happy riders. Ollie enthused, “Brilliant training and genuinely very fun to learn with Pete. I feel like I learnt a lot more here than with any other riding school I've used in the past. Great bikes and great times! Thanks Pete.”  Whilst Luke commented, “Brilliant service and training to complete my CBT, Mod 1 and Mod 2 test. An enjoyable experience!!”

Thanks guys. Look forward to meeting a lot more budding riders during the rest of the year.

What A Day!

Sunday 18th November saw great Enduro championship action come to Thetford Forest.

You may have been there to see the thrilling Muntjac event organised by Diss MCC, which was the last round of the ACU Eastern Enduro Championship 2018. For those of you who weren't however, it was a tough course, with penalties making a big difference to the final result. Although Jason Morland started the day in the lead, it was Luke Parker who ended the day in victory! Read more at https://www.acu.org.uk/news/2018/11/parker-takes-victory-and-title-at-acu-eastern-enduro-championship-finale/ (photo of the event by Anthony Ridge from ACU Eastern report)

If this event has given you an appetite for Enduro, then get involved by visiting our Thetford Forest based Hit The Dirt Track, which offers great challenges (and warming refreshments) Hope to see you there!

Muntjac's Back
On 18th November you'll be able to enjoy Diss MCC's Muntjac Enduro in Thetford Forest, as the final round of the ACU Eastern championship.

This is a popular 20 mile course in a great woodland setting, providing some interesting challenges. Diss MCC has been running such events since it reformed after World War II. From grass track in the 1950s to motocross (originally called scramble) in the sixties, the club continues to run great enduro and motocross events.

To offer preparation time at our forest track, we're open the weekend of November 10th and 11th (pausing for remembrance reflection on the Sunday).

And on the subject of muntjac, these plucky little deer reside in Thetford Forest, in addition to red and roe deer. Remember off-road riding is only allowed at designated areas of the forest, including Hit The Dirt, to help protect these species and the environment.

Hope to see you at the Hit The Dirt Track soon! http://www.hitthedirtdb.net/

2018: The Story So Far…

With over half the year already gone, 2018 has been proving a busy one for the Dave Barkshire team.

Back in June we celebrated 35 years in the business at the Dave Barkshire Motorcycle Centre. Since opening his first shop in Lenwade in 1983, Dave Barkshire has become a big name across Norfolk, and it was brilliant to celebrate this achievement with so many of you. The day was a great success, raising over £500 for the Children’s Acute Transport Service.

In May, we made the decision to open our popular Hit The Dirt Enduro Practice Track on a regular fortnightly basis at weekends throughout the summer months, to make it easier for you all to plan your sessions. We’ll keep you updated via Facebook (www.facebook.com/HitTheDirtUK ) as to which weekend is which, with regular reminders as to when we’re open or closed. If you’ve not tried out the track as yet, then add it to your summer to-do list – we’re sure you’ll have a fantastic time!

In April we showcased the fabulous KTM 790 Scalpel. This is a super agile, super powerful machine with precision handling, and we had good fun announcing the demo, with Dave dressing up for the occasion!

Our Motorcycle Training Centre has been kept busy, with many new riders joining the Dave Barkshire Hall of Fame with Mod 1 and Mod 2 passes! Back in February, however, tests came to a temporary halt when snow arrived, causing a bit of a Norfolk whiteout. Whether you looking at taking your CBT, Mod 1 or 2, DAS or a refresher course, make this your summer goal and give us a call.

Back to the present and we find ourselves in sweltering temperatures. Remember to wear full protective gear, even on the hottest days to keep safe (check out our Motorcycle Centre for your kit) and keep well hydrated when riding to help you stay alert.

We’ve had a fantastic 2018 so far, we look forward to sharing the rest of it with you all!

Many Thanks

A big thank you to all of you who came to our 35 year celebration day on Saturday! We all had a great time and hope you did too.

We're pleased to announce that the event made over £500 for Children's Acute Transport Service (CATS), which gives intensive care support on the road to sick children. A great service that we're glad to help.

It was good to see so many turn out to enjoy the demo rides, raffles and tasty BBQ. Marion remarked, "Well done David and your team. I had a really nice afternoon... food was amazing!" Whilst Martin commented, "Nice to see a good turn out".

A mention must go to Alex for all his hard work in bringing the day together and to Aaron and James for their ongoing support.

Thanks to all of you, not just for sharing in Saturday's celebration, but for your friendship and custom over the last 35 years - long may it continue!

Rising To The Challenge

Despite some very challenging weather conditions, another crop of budding motorcycle riders have gained a clutch of certificates at the Dave Barkshire Motorcycle Training Academy over the past month.

A particularly cold and icy day dawned when Luke was due to take his CBT, meaning it was on the verge of being cancelled, but fortunately the sun broke through and success was his. Congratulations Luke!

CBT success was also gained by Antony, Kara, Leo, Craig, Dominic, Nathan and two other Lukes would you believe? We think Luke must be the lucky name of the month! Anne and Kenny also completed their CBT in very wet and cold conditions. Have a great time guys and ride safely.

Craig also had to face somewhat challenging conditions for his Mod 1 test – great result Craig, you actually made it look very easy!

Tony and Carl both completed their CBT training before going on to Mod 1 success despite the weather – can you try and bring better weather with you for your Mod 2 training guys?

Congratulations to James for passing his Mod 2 on the back of successful Mod 1 and CBT completion. Fantastic result James, enjoy your new KTM!

Finally Przemyslaw passed his Mod 2 first time, within weeks of passing his Mod 1 with a clean sheet!

As you can see, we’ve had many successful riders during the past month or so and your name could soon appear here too, if you sign up to Dave Barkshire Motorcycle Training. Just visit www.davebarkshiremotorcycletraining.co.uk or contact us at:
